Red and White Day!

8th Sep 2021

Today we held a red and white day to celebrate Tyrone reaching the All Ireland Final.

Conor Macauley from RTE visited the school and we will be part of a feature to be aired on RTE 6-1 news on Thursday 9th September.

A special word of thanks to Tyrone player Tiernan Mc Cann who took time out of his busy schedule to visit St. Mary’s and spend time with the children.

The atmosphere in school was amazing! The children cheered, waved flags and sang ‘Come on Tyrone’ as Tiernan arrived into school.

The children had an opportunity to ask Tiernan lots of questions and Tiernan kindly took time to respond and share some valuable tips with the children, including the importance of teamwork and maintaining good friendships in school. We all enjoyed the banter between Tiernan and our own Mr Morrow who is a Derry man!

The RTE crew were so impressed with all the boys and girls and enjoyed speaking to them about the upcoming All Ireland Final. They were especially impressed with how amazing the school looked and the wonderful decorations and signage!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian McMahon for loaning the school a sound system for our question/answer session outdoors, Joanne Askin for the amazing balloon displays, Briege Tierney for the Tyrone themed floral display, Gareth Donnelly for the ‘Good Luck Tyrone’ signage and last but not least our own Mr Damien Hamill for decorating the school so well with flags and bunting!

On behalf of everyone in St. Mary’s I would like to wish Tiernan and all the players and Tyrone management the very best of luck on Saturday!

Please find below some videos of our Red and White Day!

Kind regards,

Louise Quinn
