P5 Viking Trip to the Navan Centre
Primary 5 were very fortunate to visit the Navan Centre for a wonderful trip that brought our ‘Raiders and Traders’ topic to life.
The children had the opportunity to explore different artefacts to learn a little bit more about life in the time of the Vikings; this included how sun dials were used to help them navigate and trying on Viking clothing. They then got to experience what life was like for a monk inside a scriptorium by writing in runes using quills. Finally, P5 met a fierce Norse warrior who taught us all about Viking raids, weapons and Viking Gods.
Everyone had a great day out!
When we returned to school on Friday, P5 student Amy brought in a very special artefact; a horn similar to which Vikings used to drink from and to warn their enemies that they were approaching. We we very excited to watch a video of the horn in action being used to call Amy's sheep in. Thanks Amy for bringing it in!
