P2 St Brigid’s Day Assembly

31st Jan 2024

This morning our wonderful Primary 2 children led us in a beautiful St Brigid's Day Assembly. The boys and girls led us in prayer and taught us all lots of facts about our patron saint St Brigid. We learned that St Brigid was born near Faughart in County Louth and she was a very kind and loving person who cared for the sick and the poor. P2 explained that St Brigid taught the people of Ireland all about Jesus and how he died on the cross. We found out what a saint is and P2 told us that St Brigid became a nun and founded the first convent in Ireland.  We learned that St. Brigid’s feast day, Lá Fhéile Bríde, is on February 1st, and on this day we make a St. Brigid's Cross out of rushes. Traditionally we hang a St Brigid's cross in our homes to gain Brigid's protection and healing for the family over the coming year. St Brigid was well known for her kindness and the P2 children shared with us all the different ways they are kind just like St Brigid. To conclude their wonderful Assembly P2 sang "We sing a song to Brigid"

Thank you Primary 2 for leading our morning Assembly! You all performed your roles brilliantly!

Please enjoy their video below!

Traditionally each year we welcome parents and grandparents to St. Mary’s to help the children to make St. Brigid’s crosses. We warmly invite parents and/or grandparents to St Mary’s tomorrow, Thursday 1st February 9:15 am – 11:15 am in the School Assembly Hall.
