Internet Safety Day

11th Feb 2022

On Tuesday 8th February 2022 we celebrated Safer Internet Day 2022.  Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of technology. The theme this year was  ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.

Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote in St Mary’s and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year.

The children enjoyed taking part in a range of activities and finding out about how to stay safe online.

Primary 1 read the story 'Digi Duck's Big Decision'. They discussed the importance of being safe on the internet at home and at school. They then drew a picture of a safe game that Digi Duck could play on his iPad.

Primary 2 loved the story about Digi Duck and the Magic Castle. Now, P2 can discuss how to stay safe when playing online games.  They wrote about the story and drew a lovely picture about what they had learned.

Primary 3 Watched Super Hero Sid’s internet safety message! They made their own rules for online safety! See the video the children made for Online Safety day!

Primary 5 celebrated Safer Internet day by having a great discussion abut how we can stay safe online and also how we can be respectful online. In groups, we read different scenarios and discussed how we could act respectfully in that situation. We then created our own 'Gaming Guide' to give people advice on how to stay safe and be respectful when playing our favourite online games.

Primary 6 discussed the good and bad relationships that they could have online and how to respect each other when using the internet eg: by asking consent before posting other people's pictures online. They then designed their own ipad screen to show a time when they could show respect to others online.

Primary 7 looked at what respect actually means and how we can show it both online and in real life.  We discussed some of the dangers we can face online and ways to remain safe from them.  Year 7 then chose one game or app they liked to use the most and explained what the game/app did and how to use it safely.
