Healthy Eating Week

2nd Oct 2020

This week we took part in Healthy Eating Week. The aim of Healthy Eating Week is to promote healthy eating, drinking and physical activity so that we can all achieve an overall healthier way of living. The benefits of a healthy diet are innumerable for growing children, and can even help them to learn better. The children took part in a range of  healthy eating activities this week and had lots of fun finding out about the importance of eating well and keeping active.

They created their own healthy rainbows and learned the importance of eating lots of colourful foods. Have a listen to the poem they learned too!

This afternoon they created their own healthy faces using rice cakes, grapes, oranges, grapes, blueberries, bananas and cheerio’s. They also practised their cold cookery skills of spreading, slicing, peeling and chopping. Have a look at some of the healthy faces and animals they made. Don’t they look delicious!!

Healthy Eating Week

Primary 4 Investigate

What really is a healthy food choice?
Does it really matter what you choose to drink?

After viewing material on healthy foods, we increased our knowledge about how fruits and vegetables are healthy choices, whilst salty and sugary foods are not healthy choices.

Children were asked to create a healthy meal to demonstrate their understanding of a healthy choice. Pictures tell their meal plan.

We then looked at popular soft drinks.

Realising the amount of sugar in each drink was a real shock. The children then wrote about what they had learnt.

               Well done to Primary 4!

**Some teeth may have been protected by this investigation. **

Healthy Eating Week in P5!

The boys and girls in P5 this week learned about the importance of eating healthy. We discussed as a class the importance of eating healthy and enjoying a balanced diet throughout the year, not just for one week.

The pupils engaged in whole class activities learning about the five main food categories – fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, dairy, protein and fats. The pupils are aware of what function each of these food groups have and were able to classify different foods into each of the five categories.

The pupils had great fun producing a healthy meal plan for Mr Ball, using foods from the five different categories. In addition to this, the pupils participated in an interactive quiz about healthy eating, learning some interesting facts along the way!

Primary 6

For Healthy Eating Week the boys and girls in Primary 6 have been learning a rap promoting healthy eating. They had great fun learning the lyrics and performing their interpretation of it. Primary 6 also did a healthy eating code breaker as part of their maths lesson.

As part of healthy eating week, Primary 7 incorporated understanding the main food groups into our PE lesson. The children had to complete an obstacle course of circuits, learning some “fun food facts” along the way. At the end of the course they had to decide if the food was a carbohydrate, fat, protein or fibre.

They displayed excellent participation, competitiveness and fitness skills and supported their teammates throughout the activity. The pupils understood the importance of a balanced diet and learned the necessity of each of the food groups.

An extra thanks to our assistant coach Jamie, who despite being unable to participate, kept things running smoothly, re-setting up each station for his classmates.
