Cabragh Cup Netball Tournament

15th Jun 2022

Yesterday, we had such a successful day at our Cabragh Cup netball tournament. We hosted six schools: Roan, Ballygawley, Glencull, Derrylatinee, Donaghmore and Aughadarragh. Throughout the tournament, we witnessed superior netball skill and great sportsmanship from all the teams. The competition ran so smoothly thanks to our four netball referees; thank you Alannah Donnelly, Eimear Mallon, Orlaith Mallon and Caitlin Campbell – four past-pupils of St Mary’s Cabragh.

There was a great atmosphere, especially after dinner time, when the rest of the school came out to watch the two finals and cheer on their own girls.

We ran off two separate finals – one for the shield and one for the Joe Sheehan Memorial Cup. The Donaghmore team played Aughadarragh in the shield final and what a game it was. Aughadarragh managed to retain the shield and brought it straight back with them.

The Cup final saw Cabragh play against the other Donaghmore side. It was a nail-biting final and every girl played to their full potential showing great heart and passion. Sadly, our girls were narrowly beaten by the Donaghmore side and so it was Donaghmore who lifted the Cup at the end.

Well done to all the teams who took part.

Thank you to all staff who helped make the day a huge success. From planning fixtures, co-ordinating games, refereeing, keeping scores, ordering and collecting medals, making tea and food and looking after our visiting schools. Thank you.
