Cabragh Cup 2019

14th Jun 2019

This year's Cabragh Cup took place in lovely summer sunshine as the boys took part in the football competition in Killeeshil GAA grounds and the girls contested the Netball in St. Mary's Primary School. The Netball was a very competitve affair with St. Mary's Ballygawley and St. Patrick's Aughadarragh competing in the Shield final. The Aughadarragh girls were victorious on this occasion. St. Patrick's Donaghmore and the host school St. Mary's Cabragh competed in the Cup Final. After two periods of extra time the host school St. Mary's eventually came out on top. Well done to all the contestants who served up a great day's entertainment. Thank you to our referees Niamh Woods and Joanne Barrett. Thanks to all the school staff and coaches who made today a great success.

The football competition proved no less competitive. Ten teams started off in two sections with all teams playing four matches. In the Cabragh Plate competition Galbally overcame Aughadarragh in a very even game. The shield final pitted Roan's B team against St. Patrick's Donaghmore with the Donaghmore lads coming out on top. The Cabragh Cup final Roan St. Patrick's and St. Mary's Cabragh played out an epic game which ebbed and flowed. At the end the Eglish lads won out by 2 points. Congratulations to Roan St. Patrick's and commiserations to the Cabragh lads.

Thank you to St. Mary's GFC Killeeshil for the use of their grounds and to Martin Russell for lining out the pitches. Thank you to Ciaran Traynor for organising the hall and to Cathrine Corrigan and Nuala Quinn for their assistance. Thank you to our referees Damian Hamill, Brian McGinn and Marty Devlin.
