Student Council

30th Sep 2022

Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council members, Aoibhe, Fionn, James, Ceara, Niamh, Bobby, Ellie-Jane and Joe. We know you will do a great job representing the views of all the boys and girls in St Mary's!

What is a Student Council?

A Student Council is a group of pupils within a school who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views.

Why do we have a Student Council?

Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.  A school council can provide a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions which impact upon them. The Student Council is also an important way for school to provide leadership and development opportunities for the pupils in St Mary's.

We wish our newly formed Student Council members Good Luck in their new role!
