P3 Florence Nightingale Assembly

28th Jun 2022

As part of their World Around Us topic, the Primary 3 children have been learning about Florence Nightingale and healthcare during the Crimean War.

The children found out that Florence Nightingale cared for many soldiers and made hospitals cleaner places. She showed that trained nurses and clean hospitals helped sick people get better and she was the founder of modern nursing.

Mrs Poacher and the children in Primary 3 put on an amazing assembly for the school based on the story of Florence Nightingale.

The boys and girls gave a wonderful rendition of the life of Florence Nightingale with acting, dialogue and songs. The Primary 3 children performed their roles brilliantly and the performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Well done boys and girls! We are so proud of you all!

The children enjoyed finding out about how Florence was presented with an award by Queen Victoria in recognition of all that she had achieved and learned all about her life and work, her family, the soldiers in her care and the doctors whose hospitals she transformed.

Florence believed that no man should die alone. So every night, after the other staff had gone to bed, she would take her lamp and walk along the rows of patients. She checked on each and every soldier. She became known as “The Lady with the Lamp” and was such a comfort to the injured men.

We hope you enjoy the P3 Assembly. Please see the video below.
