P1 Science Week

23rd Feb 2023

P1 embraced 'Science Week' in school this week. They carried out two experiments in which they developed their skill of making predictions.

Their first experiment consisted of choosing an object and predicting whether it would float or sink in the basin of water. They were so excited and enjoyed predicting what would happen when the different objects went into the water. They discussed how the heavier objects sunk to the bottom of the basin and the lighter objects floated on top of the water.

During the second experiment the children developed their mixing skills and observed what happened when they mixed baking soda and vinegar.  Firstly, the children poured some vinegar into the Volcanoes on our 'Dinosaur Island'. Next, they took it in turns to sprinkle some baking soda onto the volcanoes and around the island. There was lots of fun and excitement as they observed the lava fizz up and pour out of the volcanoes and over the island.

Well done, Primary 1. Lots of future scientists in the making.
